Why You Should Have a Nighttime Routine

Everyone knows that a morning routine is important, but have you ever thought about the importance of a nighttime routine? I never really thought about it until one night I realized that I had kinda unconsciously been following a nighttime routine and it really got me wound down for theRead More…

Coffee, candles, and kiddos. Three little things t Coffee, candles, and kiddos. Three little things that have made the past year cozy, bright, and special for me. The little things are the best: the simple memories, the small pleasures, the little blessings.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Confession time: the taste of coffee isn’t my favorite. 🤫 I mean, I really like it, but my favorite part about coffee is just the comfort of curling my hands around a steaming mug and enjoying the warmth of each sip (I hate lukewarm or cool coffee).

What are some simple joys that have carried you through the past year?

The world is a mess. Sometimes it feels like every The world is a mess. Sometimes it feels like everything is just hopeless. That it’s not worth it to keep fighting, to keep moving forward. It feels like we’re not making any difference, no matter what we do. It gets discouraging. Maybe we’re even tempted to give up altogether.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But remember: God still has a plan for your life. As long as we are breathing, He is working in us. We still have a place, a calling, and a purpose. Keep pressing on, friend. Keep following God.

This morning I woke up late (late, as in at the ti This morning I woke up late (late, as in at the time I was supposed to be AT work 😬). I didn’t get anything checked off from the list I made last night for this morning. I almost accidentally rear-ended the person in front of me on my way home from work because of a sudden stop. And my plans for this afternoon all have to be changed now because of another obligation that just came up.

All that to say, life doesn’t always go as planned. It can really throw you for a loop sometimes, and all of your carefully laid plans can blow apart in an instant.

Now I’m going to preach to myself for a minute. 😉

That doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong, or that you’re not the right person for this task, or that you should just give up.

Pick yourself up. Dust yourself off. Keep going. Even if it has to be in a slightly different direction for a short while.

But don’t forget where you’re going. Don’t forget the reasons why you made those plans and goals. Keep pressing towards them, a little at a time. Start over again tomorrow morning. Make the best of what happened. And trust God when He changes your direction by not letting some plans work out.

Happy New Year! What kind of big dreams and fresh Happy New Year! What kind of big dreams and fresh starts are you looking forward to in 2021? Personally, I’m not planning for anything big this year - I’m pretty happy with where my life is, and while there are definitely some smaller things I would love to work on improving, there’s nothing really big in my life that I feel I need to change. God brought me to some pretty good places in 2020, and I’m so thankful for the year.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
New Year is one of my absolute favorite times of the year. I love fresh starts and new beginnings.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But remember, every day is a chance for a fresh start. If this year doesn’t go exactly as planned, or if things don’t get better right away... remember that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:21-23), and every morning you can wake up and start over.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s not just the beginning of the year that we have a chance to make new goals and work towards improving ourselves and our lifestyle. You have that chance every month, every week, and every day.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So this year, let’s have the goal to make every day a fresh start, a chance to improve, and a place to begin again. Because days add up to weeks, months, and years - and after all, it is what we do in our everyday lives that shape who we really are and where we’re really going. 💙
